What is baseball backstop netting?
Baseball backstop netting is a high-strength mesh barrier installed behind home plate and along the foul lines to stop foul balls and line drives before they reach spectators, players, or nearby property. Unlike solid fencing, the netting holds back hard-hit balls while staying nearly invisible from the stands, so fans keep a clear view of the field. CoverSports cuts and sews every net to your exact backstop, foul line, or field dimensions, for both baseball and softball, indoors or outdoors.
What's included in a custom backstop netting system?
Each system is built to your measurements and arrives ready to hang. A complete backstop netting system includes:
- Custom-cut netting: UV-stabilized, water-repellent mesh sewn to your backstop or foul-line layout, finished with double-stitched, rope-bordered edges for years of outdoor exposure.
- Support poles and hardware: we provide and set the poles, hardware, and attachment systems sized to your span and height.
- Pole padding (sold separately): protective padding is available for the support poles set inside the field of play.
Provide your backstop or foul-line measurements, and we handle the cut, border, and finishing so panels arrive game-ready.
Where is baseball and softball backstop netting used?
Backstop netting does more than guard home plate. Because each net is cut and sewn to the venue, we can build tall or long runs of protective netting for almost any spot where errant balls create risk:
- Behind home plate and along the first-base and third-base foul lines
- Between adjacent fields at multi-diamond complexes
- Along roads, parking lots, and walkways bordering the outfield
- Above spectator seating and along the dugout fence lines
The same systems protect both baseball and softball fields. For barrier netting on other surfaces, see our football barrier netting, or read how teams use sports barrier netting across a facility.
How is backstop netting installed and maintained?
Our crew can handle the full installation, setting posts, hardware, and final tension so you receive a secure, game-ready net with no work on your end. Prefer to install in-house? Nets arrive bordered and ready to hang. For upkeep, the UV-stabilized fibers and water-repellent coating are built to hold up through sun, rain, and freezing temperatures, so seasonal care stays minimal: check tension and attachment points at the start of each season and clear debris as needed.
